Successful Renters Program Offered

The Eastern Panhandle Successful Renters Program provides education and information about rental terminology; tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities; reading a lease; handling and storing important papers; money matters, including budgeting, saving and credit (using the Building Wealth program from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas); and the legal issues of renting.

The program was created by a group of organizations working under the umbrella of the Housing Work Group of the Eastern Panhandle Health and Human Services Collaborative. Classes feature a combination of lectures, exercises, videos, and group discussions. Incentives are also part of the program, and prize drawings are held at each session. Those who attend all three sessions receive a certificate of completion and a complementary fire retardant metal security box.

There is no cost to participate but prior registration is required. To register for the May 2016 classes at Jefferson County Community Ministries, please call JCCM at 304-725-3186. (Note: Rosa Eggleton, PAH credit counselor and home buyer education instructor, assists with the Financial Fitness portion of the program.) See the SRP 2016 Calendar of Classes.
